Growing together in Faith

 

“He has told you, O mortal, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?” Micah 6:8

We are a distinct and diverse community of Christians that come together as one church united in Spirit to love all, welcome all and seek justice for all.

​

As progressive followers of Jesus Christ, we strive to show God’s love in the flesh. To show forth the Kingdom of God on Earth.

 

We act for Justice by standing alongside the poor and oppressed. 

  • We care for God’s creation through environmental awareness and good stewardship of the earth.

  • We stand for equality, by walking humbly with God and showing welcome and love to all we meet.

  • We grow our faith together, through reason, tradition, scripture and experience.

  • We grow our faith together, through worship, fellowship and care for one another.

Youth Ministry & Christian Ed

Our Sunday School program helps our children learn to how to live in God's way. We hear stories about Jesus and how we can follow his teachings in our everyday life. The children sing, pray, and act out the stories to bring them to life. We enjoy bringing our music and stories into the regular worship service. We meet every Sunday morning in person and on zoom at 9:00am.  All ages are welcome. 

Adult Ministry

 “For where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them.” Matthew 18:20

  • Women’s Bible Study meets the second  Monday each month.  The fourth Monday is reserved for Women’s Book Club.  This group of women have developed strong friendships and are always open to welcome new members.

  • Pastor’s Bible Study is held on Zoom every Tuesday night.  Participants come from across the country and are a diverse group of believers seeking wisdom from ancient scriptures, contemporary readings as well as practical advise and support for one another.  “Weather or distance can’t keep us apart.”

  • Small Groups are encouraged at RCC. If you have a special interest and would like to start a small group, contact the church council.

Social Justice Ministry (SJM)

The RCC has been involved in Social Justice and Activism from running a test recycling program in the 60's demonstrating to the Borough that large scale recycling can be cost effective; to RCC Members being responsible for the creation of the Civil Rights Commission of Rutherford; the RCC establishing the first child care center in Rutherford.

 

Members have been active participants in the Woman's Rights movement, protest marches for Black Lives Matters, A Rally and March protesting the separation of families at the US/Mexico border (see Mr. President button below for protest song), and a candlelight vigil celebrating the life of Ruth Bader Ginsberg.

Women's Fellowship

The Women's Fellowship is a group of women made up of church members and friends of the RCC.

In the past they have organized and sponsored yearly Rummage Sales, Indoor Garage Sales. They have also taken part in Holiday Bazaars and provided repasts, when requested, for funerals held at the church.

​

The Fellowship's most popular event is the annual Women's Retreat which is held in Ocean Grove, NJ.

A Supportive Hug
Pastoral Support

The membership of RCC is a caring and supportive community.  Many members are engaged in support of the sick and shut in.  We babysit for one another, grocery shop for one another, if someone’s grass needs cutting or a faucet is leaking, usually someone in our group will pop over to help. Several members have a care ministry where they make regular telephone calls, texts and send cards to members.

Pastor Annie has sixteen years of ministerial experience. She is open and available for prayer, counseling, pastoral advise and guidance. She also does house and hospital visits. But it is the ethos of our congregation that everyone is an active participant in our community.

​

Day by day, as they spent much time together in the temple, they broke bread at home and ate their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having the goodwill of all the people. And day by day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved. Acts 2: 46-47

Mission Initiatives

Food Insecurity

  • Provide hot dinners to southern Bergen residents through Family Promise of Bergen County.

  • Christmas Carol Singing Telegram Program in December with donation of all proceeds to Family Promise to support their operations.

  • Support of the Rutherford Food Pantry through volunteers and financial donations.

 

Clothing for the Homeless

   Collecting new winter hats, gloves, and scarves as well as gently used coats and jackets in December and giving them out to homeless people in New York City.

 

Pennies for Charesse

   Donations to support a teenage girl in the Philippines. The money helps with school fees, school supplies, and other expenses.

 

Angel Tree

   An anonymous list of needed items is secured from the Rutherford Social Services. Members select items, purchase them, wrap them and they are delivered the week of Christmas.

​

Rainbow Mission Jar

   A Jar in the rear of the sanctuary used for collection of monies to be applied to a chosen mission project. Projects have included Haiti disaster fund, Habitat for Humanity, and LGBT Teens in Newark.
